As Melbourne’s fastest-growing region, thousands of new homes are built in the West each year.
While many new communities come with vague promises of a new train station or regular bus services, there is often a significant lag between people moving into their new homes and when transport services are provided.
This forces new residents to use cars until transport infrastructure catches up - if it ever does. People are compelled to buy multiple cars and spend more on fuel and vehicle costs because there is no other way to get around.
That means more traffic congestion, overflowing car parks at shops and train stations and no option but to spend even more time spent in the car for people in the West.
